Tuesday night was a night to remember: Belgium kicked USA out of the World Cup. I had fortunately made some friends my age at the pool that day. The girls spoke English, were staying in my apartment complex for a week, and invited me to go watch the game with them that night. Oh, and they're from Belgium. The restaurant/bar we went to had cheap tapas and a huge big screen, and I had to be the only one in there rooting for America. It was funny because the girls didn't quite understand the rules, like the difference when I said "corner kick" or "offsides", but they rooted for #14 because of his "cute face". They were fun though, and didn't rub it in my face too much afterwards. However, when a decked-out Belgian fan walked by with face paint, they made sure to point out I was American and he proceeded to swipe the Belgian flag paint on my arm (I would have never allowed the face).
Last weekend I went to a campsite with the family, one of the girls' class goes every summer. I hung out mostly with the "monitors", because they were my age, and the kids. The only bad part was my allergies, and not getting enough sleep due to a loud-snoring 5 year old. They had games and activities planned during the days (Saturday and Sunday), like a scavenger hunt that involved racing all over the campsite. Later that night, inside part of the "house" they set up a haunted house. I went through it with the three other girls that were my age, and I was elected to go last. However, I found it more funny than scary, simply because the guide was telling the story in Spanish, so I really had no idea what was going on. And the girls freaking out grabbing on to me made me laugh even more. On Sunday we went to the "tiralina". What they described was some huge, impressive zipline that even the parents go on. When we got there, I was disappointed to find it was about 50 yards long. But the girls had fun, the food was actually pretty good, and I didn't get as many bug bites as I thought I would! Needless to say, I enjoy my bedroom with my fan and screen-window.
