3 things I miss: peanut butter, popcorn, and pancakes. Spain doesn't believe in those things apparently. They also don't censor people with no clothes on the television I learned today. It is very normal for that to appear on the TV. It is also not appropriate to eat a snack during class at school. In high school and college I always brought peanut butter crackers or a bar to munch on. One time I even witnessed a guy chowing down on a Big Mac during a lecture. It was math, so I don't blame him. Along with their no food in class policy, it is illegal to drive while eating. This isn't really a problem for me since I don't drive a car here, but even walking while eating is frowned upon. I can't even eat a banana while walking to my 8am class without getting sideways glances!
My last tidbit of Spain observation for today is their elevators. I have not set foot in an elevator yet that is bigger than my closet. No joke, the highest "max occupancy" number I've seen so far is 8 people, and that's here in my hotel/apartment complex where people are bringing luggage in and out frequently. The common "max occupancy" size is actually 4 people. It has been this at all the residences of families I've visited (they don't have separate houses and neighborhoods here in the city, they build up like apartment complexes). They definitely like conserving space... and energy; lights go off automatically in hallways and are usually (not always) motion-censored. It's definitely a different living environment than what I'm used to from back home.
